How to ping computer in network?

Pinging computer checks if the machine is reachable on the network. It is helpful in troubleshooting network connectivity.To ping computer you need to execute the following from command prompt:

ping hostname_or_IP

Replace hostname_or_IP with the address of the computer you want to ping. If the computer can be reached, ping will show reply time (four times). Below is the visual guide.

 

Click menu Start/Run:

Type cmd and hit Enter:

Run command prompt

 

Type ping command:

Successful ping

 

If the computer cannot be reached you would see something like:

Ping failed
