Restriction properties

Rule name - label for the restriction

Protection - choose which file operation will be disabled.

Include file pattern - choose files or file masks which will be protected from operations you selected in the Protection section.

You can use Add file, Add directory and Add subdirectory buttons to choose specific files or directories. You can also enter filenames separated by semicolon (;). File pattern wildcards (*, ?) are also allowed.

Some example patterns are:

*.exe - all files which have .exe file extension
*.exe;*.dll - all .exe and .dll files
D:\* - all files on the D:\ drive
*\Text.txt - all files named Text.txt, regardless of their location
*\Test\* - all files that have folder named Test as parent

You can also use the following variables:

%PROGRAMFILES% - Program Files system directory

%WINDOWS% - Windows installation directory

%SYSTEM% - system directory

%CDROM% - CD-ROM drive name

%FLOPPY% - floppy drive name

%HARDDRIVE% - hard disk drive name

Exclude file pattern - files or file masks which will be excluded from protection.

Include process pattern - process names which will not be allowed to perform operations selected in the Protection section on files chosen in the Include file pattern field.

Process patterns have the same form as the file patterns, however they should use task names, instead of Fully Qualified file names.

Some example patterns are:

Explorer* - specifying Explorer
Explorer;Explorer.* - specifying ONLY Explorer, but no processes named ExplorerNT or so
Explorer*;Notepad* - specifying Explorer and Notepad processes.

Please note the * character after the process name. It should be used because processes in Windows 9x/ME are usually called FileName, whereas in Windows NT/2K/XP processes are usually called FileName.exe. Using the * takes care of that difference, and makes matching processes names in both operating system types possible. If you're not sure how a processis called in your system, use Process manager to find out.

Exclude process pattern - choose process names which will not be restricted.
